It was back in 2002 when I woke up to a face that was not working quite right. I mean when I move my lips both sides are supposed to move and yet this was not the case. Instead I discovered that the right side of my face was completely numb and immoveable. I am sure you can imagine the thoughts that began to flow through my mind as to why I was experiencing this problem.
It was not long before I found myself at the doctors office asking a multitude of questions to which he answered that it could be a few different things the easiest and best being Bells Palsy and the worst being Multiple Sclerosis. Hoping it would be the Bells Palsy we let some time go by to see if I would begin to recover. After a few weeks and no change he sent me to a neurologist who had some MRI’s of my brain done to which he discovered the worst scenario to be true. I had MS, as we like to call this disease in today’s world.
So talk about a life changer. What I knew or thought I knew was that there was no cure for this dreaded disease and that eventually I would be in a wheelchair. What a blow to my life’s plans and instead of focusing on coaching my daughter’s swim team I was researching on the internet. What about this drug? Or that drug? I went to seminar after seminar only to find that medicines created for MS were only to control it and not eliminate it.
As the symptoms began to fade, I found myself getting back to some normality in my life. I went on coaching and running my business and eating the way I had always eaten. Not too long after all this I found myself and out martial arts school invited to a training weekend in Canada. It is there I met my QiGong Master who was teaching 9 poses of Therapeutic QiGong (Chee Gong) to whoever wanted to go. It was my introduction to the art and practice of energetic healing although at the time I did not understand that. I explained to my new teacher what I had gone through and his only response was to do and practice the 24 Postures of Therapeutic QiGong and that would help me immensely. The truth is that it did to the point of healing my completely and entirely from MS and it’s symptoms!
From this point on I committed myself to training with my Sifu twice per week and I was 2 hours away from his studio and I did this twice per week. Interestingly enough, did I understand why it was working on me? No. Did I understand that the energy flow of my body was changing? No. I understood nothing about the why’s only that I was to do and life would change for the better which it did. I am not even sure that my Sifu knew what each posture does to the body but it did not matter. I began to teach the 24 Postures even to this day. I created the QiGong Institute of Healing and Wellness to which everyone is invited to come and learn.
As I look back on that time of my life I realized that I needed to know more about this QiGong practice, what was it? Where did it come from and when did it come into existence. That’s when I found my teacher of Medical QiGong, the oldest arm of Chinese Medicine in California and began to study with him. What I discovered was fascinating. The Chinese Medicine doctors believed that health and healing comes when energy or Qi flows in the body unrestricted. With this understanding I learned the protocols that we can use on others to begin to allow their bodies to clear of their traumas and to allow energy to flow. I learned of understandings that involved creation and destruction, that involved balance in life and harmony in life. I learned of how the energetic body and the emotions we have experienced after being born create areas within us that block the flow of energy to the organs and create issues with health that manifest in the physical body at a much later time. I learned that moving energy in a person is not difficult but very effective in getting them to experience a new found life.
